Tania

Four years ago, Tania and her family made the courageous decision to move from their home in Mexico to the city of Vancouver. She learned about the programs offered at the Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House (MPNH) from a friend who was involved in the Multicultural Cooking Club at the time. Since then, she has been giving back to the community by consistently volunteering her time and experience to the neighbourhood house.

For three years Tania has participated in the Multicultural Cooking Club, the Impact Mentorship Program, and helped to coordinate a Money Skills workshop. In this program she helps give newcomers to Canada the opportunity to learn about the Canadian financial system. Through her experiences at MPNH, Tania has gained lasting friendships, expanded her social circle and network, and has learned a great deal about herself. Family oriented programs are the most beneficial to Tania because they provide her with the opportunity to be with both family and friends at the same time.

“It’s about giving and receiving. There needs to be a balance…”

MPNH is very grateful to have individuals like Tania within its walls, making the house a positive, inviting environment, all the while enacting social and positive change within the community and within the self.
